The principles shared here were developed by PDUW’s ten consortium partners through virtual knowledge exchange workshops that aimed to reflect on research practices and ethics.

This reflection, always necessary, became more pertinent as a result of Covid-19 and the need for international research teams to adapt and learn to work more remotely.

While Covid-19’s impacts on public and personal health, inequality, and wellbeing continue to be devastating, new ways of working as a result of the pandemic have encouraged us to pay more attention to research practice.

Rich insights and experiences on research practices among country teams were likely to have remained “in country,” discussed separately within each research team during the preparation and design of fieldwork. Remote ways of working, necessitated by international travel restrictions and safety concerns as a result of COVID-19, encouraged us to have those discussions across country teams.
